Science 8A Assignments for the Week of 3/23/20
Log on to the online science textbook (see the Online Textbook info posted in Classwork to get your username and password). When you access the textbook homepage, there is a menu on the right that says "Lesson Resources." Click on the icon that looks like paper. You'll have a new menu. Under the Lesson Search tab, Choose Chapter 9 Lesson 1. On the right, click on the "Online Quiz."
Complete the quiz and send results to epriest@sacredheartschoolsuffern.com
Weekly Activity:
You are going to create your own speed-time graph.
1. Find a ball or toy car.
2. Create a ramp for the ball or car to travel on (you may stack books and lean a book against the stack to be the ramp- get creative!).
3. Use a stop watch (smart phones and tablets usually have them) to measure the time it takes for the object to reach three different distances. You will need to keep sending the object on your ramp to measure the time it takes to reach the different distances. If you have a sibling or parent at home able to help you, enlist their help!
4. Calculate the average speed for each of the distances. (speed = distance/time)
5. Create a speed-time graph. The x-axis is time. The y-axis is speed. Plot the average speed at each time point.
Fill in the Google Doc attached and Turn in when you complete it.
Note: If you don't have the correct materials to complete the activity, let me know and I can send you sample data.
